Hosting a workshop to facilitate communities growth on campuses
On November 15, 2023, Dr. Olya Vvedenskaya conducted a community-building workshop at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in Berlin, Germany. The workshop aimed to provide practical tools for the establishment of diverse communities among scientists at the MDC Campus.
During the workshop, participants outlined plans for several distinct communities, including those centered around parenting, running, and mental and physical well-being. The objective was to foster a supportive and collaborative environment among scientists and support staff.
The workshop successfully engaged participants in meaningful discussions and activities, encouraging active involvement in the creation of these communities. As a direct outcome, attendees gained a comprehensive understanding of the communities they seek to cultivate. Our guidance equipped them with tangible steps to implement, ensuring the practical realization and sustainability of these communities within the MDC Campus.
In summary, the workshop facilitated not only an exchange of ideas but also provided a strategic framework for participants to implement concrete measures in developing and maintaining a thriving scientific community at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine.

When we left the room on Thursday evening, we left with four new community sprouts, each founded by one or two MDC employees. I had a wonderful time with all of you on Thursday, concocting ideas and teaming up to inspire people to raise awareness, raise voices, collect valuable resources or start running together at MDC 🏃. I definitely left the room with a full heart, feeling more inspired, tolerant and open than when I entered the room that day.
I have been a part of the PhD representatives' community and have spearheaded and led a yoga community on campus Buch for many years. Despite already having founded and supported communities, I learned so much from Olya's guidelines. I also learned so much from each all the workshop participants - by learning what their needs and interests were and how they would like to lead and support your communities.
